Opposition Rally O.o

GASP! I went to an opposition rally! But who gives a flying ****? All Singaporeans should go to an opposition rally. It’s rather amusing.

So Captain A organised an “outing” to the WP rally at Serangoon stadium yesterday. Initially I didn’t quite want to go especially when it involved rushing all over the damn place just go get my ass to an opposition rally. But I thought, since I’m going to London to study, I’m going to miss the next election in 5 years time! So damn, I have to attend my very first rally as part of my responsibility of a Singaporean citizen to inform myself of whatever devilish mischief or angelic enlightenment the most credible opposition party can bring to Singapore.

GST prices, squeezy MRTs and taxes are but a few of the different fuels the WP used to fan the flames of dissent with the PAP. But personally, these issues are really trivial. In my own words, solved really easily. Squeezy MRTs? Increase MRT frequencies, introduce new bus services or whatnot, not a very difficult problem to solve. I was rather annoyed by it.

Checks and balances. This, I feel is a rather good point. The WP aims to work towards a “first world parliament” of which they didn’t define in their rally which I felt was VERY disappointing but I suppose it means a parliament with more than one voice. They kept stressing that a party with 82 out of 84 seats won’t give a hoot about the public’s needs because they’re so comfortable and no one can stop them. But aside from giving more seats to the opposition, how are they going to provide these checks and balances? I have the impression that they’re just going to oppose any policy the PAP comes up with. Like a rebellious child saying NO! to his mother regardless of what she said. But truth be told, there IS a need for more voices in the parliament to provide more views and the creation of more balanced and well-rounded policies. I quote:

“A party with 82 out of 84 seats will not fight for your future, they will DEFINE your future! Tell you when you can retire, what kind of house to live in, how many kids to have…”

Another issue brought up for contention by the WP is the number of foreigners allowed into Singapore. And they are squeezing the life out of us. They mentioned that we Singaporeans are friendly people and we welcome foreigners but the government is making us hate them because they’re letting too many of them in! With regards to education, I’ve competed with PRC students as well as Vietnamese students in my JC days. I respect them as equals as well as my friends with some I am very close with. However, some of them have even agreed that there are simply too many of them in Singapore and can understand our resent towards their existence in our schools. Yes, foreigners do add colour and flavour to our otherwise mundane and narrow-minded lives. They open our eyes to a “new world” out there. Singaporeans can be very close minded, refusing to seek understanding of different pastures outside our island city.

But there must be a limit.

Like how too many cooks spoil the broth, too many foreigners will only bring about Singapore’s ruin. As correctly pointed out by the opposition, our land mass is already very constrained and housing is inadequate. Bringing in more foreigners than housing property growth spells for disaster. Cheap labour will drive Singaporeans out of their jobs. Singaporeans who contribute to CPF, go back for In Camp Training (ICT) every year to keep themselves ready to defend our nation and help the poor. A balance must be found. A Singaporeans first policy will definitely have its drawbacks but it’s up to the politicians to find that magic balance.

All the suffering in OCS has finally come to an end.  It’s hard to imagine sometimes that 9 months of nonsense has come and passed so quickly. Well honestly, the years are short but the days are long. Going through OCS day by day has been quite torturous but looking back, time really flew. My buddy used to tell me:

OCS is all about breakfast, lunch and dinner. When you wake up, it’s breakfast. Do abit of things then it’s lunch. Do abit more than hey! It’s dinner. After dinner, sleep. The next day just rinse and repeat.

Tis true I say. As I was marching into the parade square during the commissioning parade, all my memories of the hardships and fun times in OCS just flashed before my eyes. I’m not dying, only my OCS journey flashed before my eyes, not my entire life. It’s quite intriguing how the brain just suddenly throws out images through your eyes for you to see. YES I know it’s weird. But it works like that. It’s like watching a projector screen but only that your eyes are the projector lens.

Mom, Dad and I at the dinner after the commissioning parade

Throwing of the peak cap was probably the most emotional moment. Screaming and running around, hugging all your buddies who went through the same shit as you. That’s something to remember for the rest of your life. Not forgetting my dearest who was there at the parade as well being there every step of the way. *hugs*

So now that I’m an ossifer, what next? I refer to myself as ossifer because I’m not as straight laced as other officers. I don’t really like how the officer corps does certain things and I’ll change it in my own little way. I received my posting a few days prior to commissioning and I’m in 21 SA at Kranji Camp II. I was quite sad to be posted away from Khatib but it was a nice change on hindsight. The bunks are AWESOME. I feel like I’m in a chalet haha.

Right now, just clearing off that I’ve accumulated over my OCS days and loving every minute I’m spending at home haha! Finished playing HALO REACH that my darling bought for me in London as well as Fallout 3. AND, I’m getting pretty scared of studying at Imperial so I visited the library and started borrowing books to read and prep myself. But I’m still at level one. I’m still reading books that any dunb-**** sec school student can pick up and read. My intellect has decreased somewhat over the past year…sadly…

Now on to the fun part!

Darling came back to Singapore and we had such a fun time together. It’s a pity that we couldn’t spend more time together but she’ll be back during the summer which is in June, only about a month away, yay! Shall let the pictures do the talking.

Tams and I at Commissioning Ball on the 16th April at Shangri-La hotel. She wore a beautiful gown from London. So sweet hor?

At the pool!

Tams and I at the airport. She's so teary cuz she doesn't want to go back!

Hell, it’s about time…

Yep, hell it’s about time for everytime to come to a nice close. Commissioning is on the 9th of April, my darling’s coming back next saturday on the 26th of March and there’s comms ball on the 16th of April. So many things happening at one go it’s hard to keep track of stuff.

Finally my cadet life is about to end. Time to put on a new rank and up game. Gone are the days when we will have to march to the cookhouse or get pumped for no rhyme or reason. Very soon, I’ll get to choose and set my on path without anyone screaming down your neck. It’s like the forbidden fruit suddenly made permissible. I can almost taste the freedom. But there’s still 3 more weeks of Joint term to go. GAH!

AND, my darling is finally coming back!! Got loads of presents for her and she has loads of presents for me too! :DDDD After the 7 long months, arguments, fights, it’s about time to just cosy up to one another and make up for all the lost time spent away from each other. I even dream of her arriving at the airport. Lovesick or what have you. I’m just really glad that she’ll be back real soon ❤

Life update & CNY!

Long time no blog. Hardly had time or even when there’s time there’s no mood heh. Life’s so-so right now. It’s discomforting to know that my whole life is practically revolving around army life. Weekends need to study and do homework (yes there’s army homework). And seriously what the heck a 4 hour Fire Support Tactics exam?? My A level H2 math paper wasn’t even that long. Funny how the longest exam I took in one seating was in the army.

For those interested in going to Liaison specialisation in arty, it ain’t that bad. In-camp is chill (but of course don’t let discipline standards slip) but outfield it’s terror. And when you can single-handedly fratricide or friendly-fire your entire company, the instructors make sure you don’t mess up in outfield. It’s quite interesting to see how you specialise, like maplestory and stuff. First it’s arty then liaison then future specialisation. Mage then fire/poison mage then sth else.

It’s CNY today and I have off! Meaning I’m not in camp! Yayness!

Commissioning soon in april and DARLING IS COMING BACK!!! Super duper excited. So many many things to do together. Long distance relationships suck. It separates the relationship but brings it closer together in another way..

Sa and I at Social Night. The theme was masquerade and everyone had to wear masks so LOGICALLY...

To my Dearest

It’s boxing day today and 2 days after our 2nd year anniversary. There’s seriously not enough space on the anniversary card to write all my feelings down for my beloved so I shall dedicate this entry to my darling who has stood by me for the past two years.

Hey darling,

I cannot express how much I love the presents that you sent me. I will treasure the little book very very much. It’s by far the best present you’ve given me under our circumstances.

Baby girl, thank you for standing by me even though I’m such a fool. You still love me when I hurt you and talk to me when I ignore you. You’re simply the best and I would never ask for any other. Thank you for being there when I have no one to turn to. Army can be a really cold place sometimes.. You’re my fire to warm me up and my reason to keep going, my raison d’être.

Darling, I really can’t wait for April when you’ll be back with me again… We’ve planned so many things to do that I’ve lost count. Ok I gtg to camp soon and I better start preparing. In essence, I love you so so much and I’ll never let you go. Never ever let you go.

Long weekend!!

Ah… gotta love long weekends. Yesterday was Deepavali so I get Friday, Saturday and Sunday!! WAHAHA!!! Get to talk to my most beloved. Heh heh. We talk for hours over Skype. Talk about the most random nonsense. Shall upgrade my webcam when the next IT show comes around. Then my face shall be crystal clear! Lolx.

Went to SAFRA resort at east coast on friday morning to run on the treadmill. I missed my IPPT gold timing by 5 seconds in Khatib and boy was I upset. I already prepared my heart, mind and soul for remedial trainings (RT) on saturday till they announced some fluke in the 2.4 run timings and all IPPT results for that day was voided. So no RT on saturdays till the next IPPT. THANK YOU GOD! I was already thinking “God, if this is what you want then so be it.” HAHA! Everyone was jumping up and down laughing. But those who did get gold (around 20%) weren’t too pleased.. Heh.

Went home, did my Arti homework and fried my brain.. I don’t really like trigo for the time being.

Went to watch Megamind later that night with the sailors. Thanks to Xuan who treated us to half our dinner bill and to the other sailors for sponsoring my ticket as a bday present! (Xuan is pure scum, he draws regular pay, around 2K+, but does nothing but loaf around in camp. It’s only right that he treated us! Just kidding Xuan but not about the pure scum part.) Anyway, Megamind was a really awesome show. You’ll be rolling around laughing throughout the whole show. Shall not disclose the plot but the twist to it was epic. Kudos to the director and scriptwriter.

“You know what’s the difference between a villain and a super-villain?”

Gotta love that line. Today’s a sleepy saturday, watched some anime called Occult Academy (Hey, doesn’t mean I’m Christian then I cannot watch can?), talk to my darling, type essay (yes there’s homework) and went shopping. Nothing much except for the shopping part where I spent very much.

Gundam: $169.95

Dakine duffel bag: $79

Army of 2 Xbox 360 game: $25

Sweets and groceries: $20.25

I think I shall starve for the next month till my next next pay comes.

“With great pay comes great expenditure”

Must start saving more for my London trip. I’m going to visit my darling straight after ORD. Wahaha. Anyway, some photos to round up this blog entry.

It's finally finished after a million years! Tams agreed to come back and help me paste the stickers. Whee!

Life Update!

Tis been a while since I’ve blogged. Got loads of stuff happening.

First of all, some random photos i took at the new Iluma mall in Bugis. They were having a cosplay exhibition and I just had to stick my nose together with some of the suits.

Darth Vader is not the only one with a Lightsaber MWAH HA HA HA!!! *takes an asthmatic breath*

Darth Vader isn't the only one with a lightsaber.. MWAH HA HA!! *takes an asthmatic breath* (pardon the screwed up face)

Wassup Predator?

Strange attempt at Alien cosplay, humans just don't quite cut the Alien stature

Yup, enough of weird rubber suits. Tams has been recovering really quickly, she can resume normal activities but just has to be careful not to strain her back. She also came down with a bad bout of diarrhoea. Really bad and nasty stuff.

Anyway, I also finally collected my pay from working at NETS. It’s not a lot but it’s enough for me. AND HELL WAS IT AN EXPERIENCE. Personally I will never work at jobs like that again. I’m not being elitist, but honestly I’m not cut out for it. Sales isn’t for me. I can do it for a while, but definitely not for months on end. I’ll die. Because I work hard at it dammit. I don’t lepak (slack) like my other colleagues. I try to sell the most number of cards that I can. Some people sell just one at the end of the day. Sorry I can’t disclose what I sell otherwise my head might roll.

So basically I worked for about less than a week at some NETS booth just before the Chinese New Year week. My mom’s insane idea to ship me off to work at NETS because she thought that I was too free at home and spending time with my darling girl is an absolute waste of time. I wasn’t giving tuition yet, that’s why. Now I earn so much more at tuition. NETS pays me about $6-7 an hour, tuition pays me more than $25 an hour with flexible work times. No prizes for guessing what I’d rather do. I stand for hours on end and endure really whacked-out customers. After the whole experience I was so glad I do not have to serve old aunties or grannies. They’ll pester you forever and burn you to death with their satanic stares if you do not give them an extra pack of angpows or some goodies like that. And hey, if you don’t win the lucky dips, it’s not my fault. So stop yelling at me!! Thank goodness, my patience didn’t short circuit at work. I made a few friends, I didn’t put on a nasty face so I guess I was quite approachable and I made an effort to mix but it’s difficult cuz they’ve been together for too long. I was among the oldest there too, most were sec school students waiting for poly. But they look so mature! Gosh, I thought this girl was over 20 but she’s 16. And I have 16 year olds calling me Ah Di (younger brother). I guess I do look very young. Haha.

Anyway, if there’s one thing that I took home from this whole experience is that I totally salute sales people. It’s tough shit and I promised myself never to give them a hard time. I’ll give them a smile and congratulate them on a job well done. There were some kind souls that I met who gave me encouragement, a pat on the back and bought me drinks. I just hope I can be that kind of person to them.

AND AND AND, collecting pay is a pain in the ass. A SUPER BIG PAIN. Gosh, I stopped work in Feb, I chased my manyzer till April before I got my measly pay. BAH! Goodbye to part-time work!

My super friendly and lovable colleague whose name I can never spell poking our mascot who was under attack by a swarm of young children. Get the joke? (swarm...bee mascot..) ..nvm..

Alrights, enough ranting (note: these are rants and are not true, they are but mere realities conjured within the crevices of my human mind). On to food reveiws!

Tams and I went to cafe cartel one week and ordered the set lunch. Their set lunches are at $9.50 nett and change every day. It was a Monday and the menu was either seafood spaghetti with mushroom sauce or Hawaiian chicken chop. It comes with soup of the day and a drink. We ordered both to try.

The spaghetti is epic bland but spamming cheese on it will do the trick. It becomes a little more creamier and saltier. Spaghetti portion was quite little for my appetite but should fill small appetites well. Seafood pieces such as fish and prawn were rather generous. The cheese was a strange variant of parmesan. It’s much stronger than your Pizza Hut parmesan and more orange.. Ohwells, it made the spaghetti taste much better and more flavourful.

Hawaiian chicken chop was much better. Very tender and tears off easily. Didn’t really use the knife that much, just had to hold the chicken down and slowly peel the meat off. Very tasty. Their Hawaiian flavour very much resembles Pizza Hut’s Hawaiian pizzas with pineapples and stuff. Sweet but still tastes very much…of chicken.

And the mushroom soup was heavenly. Drinks came in huge ass glasses.

Wonderful mushroom soup! Thick, creamy, rich and bursting with mushroom. Authentic cream of mushroom!

A very pleased Tams

Overall, I think it was a very good meal and very worth it. I was very pleased with the service staff too! Jia you! Tams and I salute the staff working at Cafe Cartel @AMK hub! (Cuz tams spilled her drink and one of the waitresses gave her a slightly smaller cup of peach tea) Simply excellent.

Ok, that shall be the end of this life update
