Best week ever…

Wow the first week of term 3 was damn shiok! 5 days of slackness or trying to finish holiday hw…Wednesday Ms Low nvr come that means 5 free periods and we’re let off at around 11 or 12+. WOOT! Thursday I get to skip 1/2 of lang arts because need to go for some NUS lab race thingy…Details later. Then on friday, Japillai didn’t come = 3 free periods! Woots! We’re so free-king free!!! Wort wort woot! Ok details about the NUS lab race thing

Ppl in the team were Kenny Lee, CK, Donovan, Ahmad and me, some random team pieced together by Goofyteo. So at 11.45 we were waiting for our "minibus" to send us to NUS. We waited till 12.15 when this 40 seater Poh Lee bus came. (it’s always poh lee, dun geddit…) the bus was supposed to come at 12.15 so CK went to check with the driver anyway. Guess what…It WAS the bus! Our "minibus" grew into a 40 seater bus to fit 5 of us inside??? LAWL! Waste of school funds but I’m not complaining…Damn shiok. I was reading Eldest by Mr Paolini on the way there.

Once we arrived, we drew many stares as only 5 of us emerged from the 40 seater bus…there were 12 schools there, all IP and mostly geeks and foreign talents. My pal from Changkat How Yi was there representing NUS math and science school and mugging away with his team members. I think the VIPERS (that’s our gp name thanks to Goofy) were the only ones who didn’t bring reference books or any sort. Our Graphic calculators will pull us through. Instructions and briefings were given and we were on our way with the starting horn sounding really like a sailing regatta air horn. Sent shivers down me spine…

First station was a robotics thing with us having to move a robot that sat on three wheels on each side, the robot was circular btw…and geez did donovan have a hard time moving it around with a joystick.

Second station was a car thingy where we had to draw a block diagram (whatever that is) of a RC car

Third station was a hydraulics thingy where we had to measure the water pressure with a constriction in a water pipe

Fourth station was freaking boring. Ever wondered why it takes so long to boil water so you could cook your instant noodels? Because it’s freaking 1 atm. reduce it to 330 mb and the water boils at 71.5 degrees. So there we were waiting till the vapour temp and water temp are the same which would be at 71.5 degrees celcius. Almost fell asleep

Fifth and final station was more fun and creative, we had to create something/ a display piece that goes with the theme: Musical box in an enchanted forest for some NUS event I can’t remember but I remember topping this station. It was manned by students and therefore we kind of hm…sweet talked them into giving us some extra points. What we came up with was an ipod in the middle of some "tribal" dancing students made of wire. It looked pretty good actually…

We came in overall fourth which was a hair’s breadth away from being third and getting a trophy for the school. Shucks…Anyway we got ourselves a $50 borders voucher and a hell lot of free stuff like a soft toy with the words NUS on it and a bag, notebook pencils and stuff. Wonderful day but not so wonderful taking the MRT from clementi back to Simei…

P.S. NUS is parkour haven…must go find parkour buddies in NUS next time. The railings are like begging you to vault them or stuff. Very tempting but I only vaulted one in the entire race because it was freaking in the way…

phobias

I just realised that I have a hell lot of phobias. Check it out.

I’m…
Acrophobic: Fear of heights
Arachnophobic: Fear of spiders
Haemophobic: Fear of blood (for my case, EXCESSIVE blood)
Claustrophobic: Fear of confined spaces
Fear of being buried alive which links to being claustrophobic
Fear of crowds

Geez, that’s alot of phobias…

Fruitless day

Today I went to the regatta with a winning mentality, that HIJ girl will finally get a piece of my mind, if the wind conditions are right that is…it was quite a "social" day today with nicole and cynthia racing today. Yay! Finally the whole VJ byte team is here…Them officials screwed the divisions again. Now instead of having the traditional pink, white, brown, white divisions, they have the gold and silver division. Aka. gold = teh 1337s, silver = not so 1337, and if you’re THAT bad you go to bronze = – 1337. Haiz…I’m in Silver div…but there’s only Gold and Silver for byte. Not fair…rah!

Anyway no wind in teh morning so they raised AP flag and it lasted all the way to 1.00pm plus. In the mean time play cards and mug chem. heh heh heh. Always bring a book to read or cards to play cuz morning 99.99% chance got no wind. At around 1+ they lowered the AP flag for bytes. WTFOMFGBBQoneoneone, the wind was still like shitz. Around 3-5 knots. They made us go out!!! Nvm, I left shore with a vengeance. The HIJ girl will PAY!!! (If you don’t know what incurred my wrath, it was because she beat me by an overall 1 point…ONE POINT!!! All because she sailed on tuesday and I didn’t…)

After sailing for abit the wind died, the sea was as smooth as glass…which means no wind!!! Going upwind with no wind is not fun. I was keeping a lookout for that sail number and that face and guess where I found that face? Sitting on a motorboat munching on a piece of bread…SHE’S TAUNTING ME I TELL YOU!!! I’m already damn flustered up and guess what? I see a race official sitting on his motorboat with a shelter above his head to protect him from the sun READING A STORY BOOK WHILE i’M SUFFERING IN ZERO WIND CONDITIONS!!! Then when I’m almost at Keta mark they zoom around in motorboats telling all of us to go back. GO BACK??? ON A RUN??? WTFOMFGBBQ. If I’m dead on closehaul, downwind will be (&^$&$%#*?!*#& I cannot tahan liaoz. I lie down on me boat and let the current bring me back to NSC. And another thing that pissed me off, nobody came to tow me back…Cynthia and Nicole got towed back but I had to pump the sail, rock the boat, skull and so all sorts of otherwise illegal stuff to get the boat moving…

I finally reached shore and AP flag was raised again. It was around 2-3 pm. So we park our bytes on the beach, looked at ppl play sepaktakraw, Opti kids playing dog and bone, skip stones, get hit by sand bombs…all this just to while the time away. We knew we had to go out soon, but HOW SOON? it was around 4+ when they lowered the AP flag. WTFOMFGBBQ…I’m not sailing anymore, it’s (&^#-ing 4 o’clock. I have to go for tuition later, so I refused to sail and unrigged much to the surprise of many other byte sailors…Anyway what’s the point of sailing if that HIF clown isn’t sailing? VENDETTA!

Shitty day, hope tmr will be better…

A fruitful day

Sailing regatta today. Actually it started on tuesday but I didn’t go on tuesday and wednesday because got *Ahem chinese remedial (there wasn’t any chinese remedial due to a misunderstanding, my phone sucks, seriously. The sms laoshi gave me was CL tuition tmr it arrived on monday instead of sunday but the date of the sms stated that it was sunday. But i didn’t check so I stupidly went to school to "meet" laoshi…ended up planning my LA essay…) and some photonics elective thingy about quantum mechanics and photons and polarisation. If I pass a diagonally polarised photon which consists of vertical and horizontal parts through a vertical polarisor, what are the chances that it will go through? answer simple right? 50% common sense. BUT there’s a WTFOMFGBBQ lot of working behind it and it pains my head to think of it…

Anyway back to sailing. Finally after all the hard work put in, I made it into the top half or higher midfleet for a more "exaggerated" term… I didn’t count the previous days because I didn’t race and I was instantly dumped with 70 points straight away. yucks…It was a day of light winds. First race supposed to start at 11 am but AP flag was raised (whew, that means race postponed to later). Some taitai with a laptop went to check her lappy and it forecasted winds below 4 knots at East Coast. The hgihest was 4 knots at 8 pm. WTF??? I was half expecting  the officials to call it a day but noooo…they said over the PA,"Ok people listen up, what we’re going to do is to raise the AP flag for Optimist sailors and lower the AP flag for Bytes (that’s my boat class)." I was stunned. Sail? In this wind? It was sail-able but it will take a WTFOMFGBBQ time to get to the marks… Oh wells, it’s going to be a long day…

Race 1.
WTFOMFGBBQ light winds… bloody hard to sail then because it was the first race blur blur abit, almost went on the wrong course, luckily that was this guy who told me that I was going the wrong way…then there was this girl from HIJ (where ever that is) that kept tailing me. She was much lighter than me and she just sailed away on the runs… RAH! Came in 58th place, nubbad still.

Race 2.
Wind starting to pick up, medium wind conditions, hiking was kind of awkward so I just sat as far out as possible. Had a WTFOMFGBBQ start because I got squeezed out of the starting rush of boats. Then while sailing the upwind that HIJ girl showed up again and doing THE EXACT SAME THING! Tailing me is not a good choice because I tail others…Me being in the midfleet always have the advantage of looking at the boats in front and seeing what’s happening to them if they slow down of bear down I do the opposite, if they speed up and point higher I follow their course. Tailing me where ever I go, I tack she tack I pump she pump…but the good thing is…she’s always behind me heh heh heh… Came in 48th place Whoopee!

Race 3.
WTFOMFGBBQ strong winds…I had a good start though it was kinda slightly behind everyone and getting dirty wind, but it cleared up soon enough and I was free to go. Hiking like crazy now, no more sitting on the deck…Guess what? THAT GIRL WAS ON MY TAIL AGAIN!!! SHe started behind me because she got squeezed out like me in the 2nd race and I thought that was the last of her but no…she ended up my tail again…Then I thought WTF…I beared down till both my telltales were flying and zoomed past her…As the author of the Complete Guide to Laser Sailing says,"The one who can keep the boat flat the longest will ultimately win the race." Since she was already dying hiking out when she caught up and I wasn’t…Add more speed, hike out more = victory! And that WAS the last of her, though one of her sneaky HIJ counterparts caught up on the last leg of the race and beat me. RAH! Came in 51st place nubbad…

So averaging everything out I’m 52.33333333333333333 placing out of 138 sailors and that puts me in the top half!!! Wort Wort Wort! Muahahahahahahahahaha! Triumph at last! Heh heh.

Lessons learnt for the day.
1. The course is friggin biased, look for it.
2. Don’t bang corners.
3. Ride as many waves as possible on the run, don’t be lazy or else that HIJ girl will catch up again.
4. Try not to look back so often at the girl tailing you, she’s not covering your wind though she’s quite good looking…heh heh heh.

The heart of EMO culture…

I think I know what’s the heart of emo culture. And it’s quite a simple thing. It’s self-centeredness. Everyone has their own problems. We don’t need you to share your problems with everyone. Keep your own problems in your heart where time can fix. Wear your problems on your face and everyone can see it and gets affected. But what causes emo feelings? It’s self-centeredness I say. Which of our physical needs in Singapore are not met? Do we starve? Do we thirst? Do we fall ill and never recover? It is only the persuit of our own selfish goals that lead to despair. Well, it is indeed a wise saying that we will never reach our targets and only to miss it by a hair’s length. So why this struggle? This never ending persuit for personal gain? You’ll never get it and end up feeling useless, wasted, rejected…in other words, feeling emo.

For others, the reason for being emo is not because of their own self-centeredness, but because of other ppl’s EMOness. Those ppl should be stoned and I say to them again, wear your problems inside. These problems are yours alone, please don’t share it around, your EMOness is not appreciated. HOWEVER, this is different from sharing a problem with a friend, or asking for help, by all means go ahead, you can’t spoil someone’s day by sharing your problems or asking for help right? Those EMO clowns on the other hand dangle their problems everywhere and an aura of depression, sadness, uselessness aka EMOness surrounds them. They spoil the cheerful mood of others and drain energy away and pool them in their bottomless pit of sorrow where they live, ironically, at the bottom.

EMOness is not cool. It will destroy you, all that sadness and rubbish will get to your head one day. We all have a character and everyone’s character is unique. If you are able to recognise your character, you’ll appreciate yourself more. EMOness is NOT a character. Be who you want to be, and hopefully it’s not EMO. People have aspirations, dreams, ambitions…Stop denying yourself of your goals just because you WANT to be EMO. Everything you do is a choice, you’ll figure that out sooner or later. So please do yourself and everyone a favour, choose LIFE, not EMO…

One solution to all this emo nonsense that’s going around. Take off your masks, be who you are, who you want to be and you’ll find that life feels much better. As for me? My feelings gravitate around situations and I"m a cross betwenn an optimist and pessimist. I analyse the situation and choose which to be, optimistic or pessimistic. By the way things are going, all this emo culture, the world is going to be a place full of self-centered angst-ridden teens and yes I’m quite pessimistic about this but never emo…

Sin

I was at my church’s Youth Gospel Rally and I really wanted to jot down these points before they slip my mind. Please have a read through them and comment.

Sin, the scum of every good thing on this good Earth, which in other words, not good. So sin leads ppl to hell, alright, some ppl can’t see the big picture so we shall paint a smaller picture. Three words: Blind, Bind and Grind.

Sin will blind us, no doubt. We are all too clouded by sin to ever do anything right. Cheating doesn’t matter…only once…Smoking is cool…

Sin will bind us, no doubt. Our sin will tighten its grip on us. Habitual cheating, addiction…

Sin will grind us, no doubt. We will have to pay for our sins. Lung cancer, getting caught and sent to jail…

And if we die as sinners, what happens?
Where do we go?
